Lundi 13 novembre - Paris

Our Day in Paris - by Gigi Desch et Adriana Rivas

Today, we woke up early, so early that the stars were still shining brightly. The reason we had to wake up early was so that we could catch a train to Paris! The train was much bigger than what we expected it to be. We were lucky enough to have the chance to use the TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse). Because of this, the train ride was only 1 hour and 30 minutes. When we got to the train station in Paris, we all were very excited to begin our visit to the jewel of France.

The first beautiful landmark we got to see was the Sacré Cœur. This would be one of the two cathedrals we would see in Paris. The Sacré Cœur was on the top of a large hill, and many students complained of how tiresome climbing the stairs was, but it was all worth it when everyone saw the amazing view of the whole city. Then, we were given 30 minutes to shop for souvenirs on a very cute, little street. There was one shop that made statues and scale models of buildings out of chocolate. Yum!

We took the Métro to the station nearest to the Eiffel Tower. The tower was much more beautiful in real life than in our pictures. After taking many pictures, we went to a small park close to the tower and had our lunches. After lunch we went to the Musée de l’Homme. The museum was super interesting, with exhibits of real human remains and artifacts. It was really awesome to look into the lives of past generations.

Next we took to the Métro again and went to L’Arc de Triomphe. After a long, exhausting climb to the top, we were rewarded with a much better view of the city and the Eiffel Tower; however, because of the height of the monument, we all were very cold. At the bottom of the Arc, there was a memorial with flowers dedicated to the brave soldiers who lost their lives in service but were never identified.

We then went to the Louvre, where we sat by the pond and enjoyed the beautiful view of the museum. There were multiple different sections of the museum and even thought we didn’t get to visit any of them, we still got to see the famous Louvre glass pyramid.

We finished off the trip by visiting the second cathedral, Notre-Dame. The architecture was astounding. There were gargoyles, and while we were taking pictures, the bells started ringing. The entirety of the trip to Paris was an amazing experience that, if given to us again, we wouldn’t pass up for the world!
